In Scripture and Today — The Exciting Stories and Miracles!

rocco shofar mateta

So, you want to learn more about the shofar? Congratulations! This is the place to start.

This book addresses every shofar mention in Scripture (72 in 63 verses) and God’s involvement in events that led to the shofar blasts, the miracles that followed, and what can happen for those who dare to blow a shofar. Chapter one tells of how God used a shofar and a prophet to urge this writing that took eight years to finish.

Events that led to the shofar blasts appear in standard biblical sequence. In some chapters, it seemed fitting to backtrack enough to show mindsets and events that preceded the shofar incidents. Poetic license has helped to flesh out feelings and bring scenes to life.

Hebrew purists may know the plural form of the shofar can be shofrot, shofroth or shophroth. Because The Complete Jewish Bible used “shofars” to indicate the plural, I have chosen to do the same.

While reading this book (and working through the Study Guide/Journal if you have it), God will be near to you and unveil spiritual truths. “Ah, ha!” illumination will delight your soul as He reveals His handiwork for the Bible characters, and in your life. You may think of those precious moments as being in your secret place of the Most High.

If we had known that the last four chapters would be about our shofar blowing ministry adventure (with photos), we might have dressed better and upgraded the camera.

The New King James Version (NKJV) is the primary source of Scripture unless otherwise shown.

Mary A. Bruno, D.Min., Th.D., Ph.D.(PCC)

Foreword

There is something very mysterious about those shofar sounds mentioned in the Bible. God longs to communicate with us and knows exactly what will get our attention quickly. He talks to His people through His promises, which are found throughout His Word. He also gives divine illumination, encouragement, warnings, and blessings to those who search for Him. Jesus says:

“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love Him and manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21).

Have you ever heard a particular sound and wondered why you suddenly felt as if it came from heaven itself? Has a worship song ever gripped your heart to the core, and caused you to weep as the music and words pierced through your soul?

Have you ever heard a shofar’s wail and wondered why you cried? It is incredible how that sound is like none other. It has a voice all of its own and seems to issue a calling that must not be ignored. Shofar cries can issue warnings, announce victory, and release heartfelt tears of praise, joy, and thanksgiving to God.

When I invited Dr. Mary A. Bruno to come with me to the Eagles’ Wings event (that was alive with wailing shofars), it seemed as if God had a divine purpose for her to be there. When she saw that beautiful shofar, I knew that she had to buy it! This was her time! This was her day to step into a fresh and glorious relationship with Jesus Christ. This was why she came! That event began a divine journey that led her to write this book.

As you explore the Old Testament and New Testament passages, I pray that you will receive God’s individual healing, and anointing to appreciate the relationship He desires to enjoy with you. May the shofar’s call stir your heart with a new understanding of those soul-searching cries that sound from earth to heaven, and one day soon will wail from heaven to earth.
